Champions At Last! Indian Women's Team Lift First-Ever ODI World Cup Trophy

India has created history by winning their first Women's World Cup title. The team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai. Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma played crucial roles with bat and ball. This victory marks a significant moment for women's cricket in India. The team's captain expressed pride and optimism for the future.

Navi Mumbai, November 02: After years of fighting, failing, and learning from every defeat, the tears, the smiles, and the joy of a billion fans on Sunday felt like more than just celebration. This is more than a victory; it is redemption.

India created history on Sunday, winning their first-ever Women's World Cup title. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, sealed a 52-run win over South Africa at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Batting first after a delay due to rain, India posted a strong total of 298 for seven. Shafali Verma smashed 87 runs off 78 balls., while Smriti Mandhana made 45. Deepti Sharma's contribution of 58 runs helped India set a challenging target despite losing momentum in the final overs.

In reply, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly with a superb 101. However, her dismissal in 42nd over ended the tean's hopes. South Africa were eventually bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.

Shafali and Deepti delivered outstanding all-round performances to seal India's historic win. Deepti claimed five wickets for 39 runs, while Shafali took two crucial wickets in consecutive overs.

At the psost-match presentation, skipper Kaur said that the team always wanted to break the barrier. "We were waiting for it, now this moment has come. This is not the end, just the beginning," Kaur added further.

Vice Captain Mandhana said, "Every World Cup has brought heartbreak, but we always believed we had a responsibility- not just to win, but to help women's cricket grow."

Following the victory, the team will receive a record prize money of USD 4.48 million (approximately Rs 40 crore) which is the highest-ever payout in the history of women's cricket. The BCCI has announced prize money of Rs 51 crore for the players and support staff.

With this win, India joined Australia, England, and New Zealend as the only teams to have lifted the Women's 50-over World Cup.
